Narangba firefighting foam spill

The Department of Environment and Science (DES) is investigating a spillage of material containing firefighting foam at a Narangba facility on 28 April 2017.

Monitoring was conducted in multiple locations in Lagoon Creek by DES to understand risks within the waterway.

Monitoring results indicate that it is not recommended that Lagoon Creek be used for drinking or recreation, including children playing in the creek.

Residents are reminded that stormwater run-off from the surrounding area flows into Lagoon Creek. Stormwater runoff can collect debris, chemicals, dirt and other pollutants before it is discharged into local streams, creeks and rivers. Water quality levels can change without notice.

The Department recommends exercising normal hygiene practices if you come into contact with water.

DES will continue to work with the company to continue to monitor and undertake water testing.
