2018: Thales is investigating potential per-and-poly-fluroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination stemming from the historical use of fire-fighting foams at its Mulwala site.

Investigations have found PFAS in soil and shallow groundwater at the Thales Munitions Plant in Mulwala. The PFAS detects are believed to be contained on site and it is likely that these detects are a result of the automatic fire-fighting system being activated in the past.

Thales is conducting further testing to confirm that the local community is not impacted by this PFAS, and developing a strategy for clean-up. The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) will review the results of the testing and the strategy when they become available.
