Groundwater beneath the site has been impacted by putrescible landfill leachate. Groundwater impacts are characterised by elevated total dissolved solids, ammonia, metals (including aluminium and iron), hydrocarbons (such as from oils, greases, humics and fatty acids) and per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). These substances extend off-site in groundwater to the west and south-west and may also extend off-site to the south-east.
Landfill gases (methane and carbon dioxide) are being generated from within the landfill material in the south-western por on of the site.
Asbestos-containing material and animal and medical wastes may be present at two metres below ground level to the eastern perimeter of the landfill cell known as Cell 1.
